The first one is variations on a silly-hat theme – did you ever see anyone in one of those hats, and did it have anything to do with what people do on User Days?
The second looks like a Christian church, with a bell in a tower.
Mu: I hear lots of criticism and not many suggestions. These are symbolic not representative and your criticism is poor.
I get the progression of the hats in the icons for UUD, and rather like that one. The second is uhm, -1.
is that the official ubuntu font? it appears to be. I think aesthetic consistency is a good element to have for clear connection between the OS and the user day program. thus, in favor of retaining usage of the official font.
also, the grad hat w/ tassle is a fairly universal symbol for education. id lobby that the far right blue circle does a good job, because the symbol is largest here. i personally don’t feel like the human adds significant value.
