The Real Boston Tea Party

Today in Boston there was a right wing gathering in the Boston Common which called it’s self “The Boston Tea Party”, it was basically a platform for the anti-everything authoritarians to have a go at the “liberal” everything and a lot of counter protesters who threw vitrol right back.

But, far from us disagreeing with any one’s politics, we took a greater offence at all their uncivilised and rude manner. So as crazy New Englanders are likely to do we organised a counter protest called “The Real Boston Tea Party” where we got together and had a very large picnic on the Boston Common, tea, biscuits, scones and cakes.

It was a fantastic day for a picnic too. Lots of people came either for the whole day or for lunch time (weekday). My lovely wife took the day off work and we all dressed up in costume. The protest was mainly against the uncivilised rowing, the arguments and bickering that are irrational and unproductive. But it was also great way to organise a mass public tea party/picnic on a beautiful day.

Err, Tea Party isn’t right-winged, seeing as it was a Libertarian thing first. Here in Chicago, there is a Democratic Tea Party. Now if all you watch is MSNBC, then yes, the Tea Party is nothing but a bunch of right-wing nut jobs. MSNBC also only shows the ignorant tea partiers. Today in Chicago you will have the Tax Day Tea Party, the Democratic Tea Party, and I just found out from a friend that him and his Socialist pals will be down there as well handing out fliers. Should be an interesting day. It is 80+ degrees here, so I will be riding my bike instead :)

I don’t have any television stations, so I only base my opinions on what I saw when I was there. Either it’s very attractive to the right wing authoritarians but isn’t really their party, or it’s really a Fox News inspired set of rallies confused about what exactly they’re trying to say. I saw no real tax reduction rationality, only anti-socialist propaganda (and even that didn’t have much substance to it).

A strange and uninspired event IMO. Our real tea party was much better, we had cookies.

I find it interesting that the Tea Party people and anti-tea party people think that maintaining our system with minor tweaks solves any problems.

The reality is that 12% of the people in the USA are in poverty and over 2 million people are in jail. The USA is currently murdering people in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The only political party I know of that somewhat addresses these issues is the green party. However, I do not think there are any political parties in the USA that fully understand the causes of these social problems.

But there are many people that have been forced to think about their society because of losing their ability to survive (getting laid off, losing their houses, and etc). People are very angry with the government because they blindly put their “faith” into the government for their security. When they realised that their faith was misplaced, they want to do something about it.

Unfortunately, the Tea Party and other such groups aren’t addressing the real problems of society. So even if such parties “remove the corrupt politicians”, the problems will not go away and will resurface in the future.

Not to put a damper on anyone’s desire for peace, believe me I want peace too, a peace of pie, a peace of dark chocolate, :D

But the original Boston Tea Party was a very violent affair. It’s gone down as tax resistance, but the ones that suffered were the owners of the merchant ships. To really have something similar we would have to storm into the grocery store and overturn all of the shelves. After all they do collect taxes from us on the Governments behalf.

Or the banning of tea, the attacking of tea shop keepers, attacking the governor of MA with axes. It was fairly violent.

  6. Democrats are centre-right, so for that matter Tea Parties actually are right-winged. ;)

@Michael – I voted green party last election! \o/ Hopefully they will get more and more support in the future and do something libertarians could never do, ummm win :)

@doctormo – Fox News or MSNBC isn’t news anymore, they are both about as useless as it comes. Today, it was nice, the Tea Party people booed both Fox and MSNBC people. I wish I had cookies!

Gee! Had I known, I’d have baked a cake! A mass tea party (the true kind, not the political ilk) sounds like a so much fun; especially in costume! Wish I could have been there.
