Seriously, it’s not really about the tools you use. GIMP works, just as every single simple linedrawing will work, it’s about talent and/or dedication.

Examples:

Have a look at the powerdraw artwork. It’s made with MS Paint. That’s a pretty crude tool to make anything.

Made with an Etch-A-Sketch, it doesn’t come more basic than that editor

Anyway, instead of focusing on end results, you should rather focus on finding your way around in the clutter of the GIMPs interface and how to use it to it’s full potential.

While we’re soliciting GIMP works, you might look at my deviantart gallery(this comment’s website link). Specifically, “Modele Ver. 2″, “Free from Shoes, colored”, and “Neko Maid, Colored”.

Mine is definitely not the best example of good artwork done in The GIMP (in my opinion, anyway), and it’s not completely original art by me either, but I figured I’d share anyway. ^.^
