More Respectable Risa
I’ve been plodding through the graphics for the “How to Ask Smart Questions” guide, which coincidentally will help people ask questions with the same quality that Akane does in chapter 03 of Ubunchu. Some of the graphics I’ve been playing with are for illustrating various parts of the guide and so I asked my good acquaintance C-Quel to draw me up a quick SVG image of Risa to help us through.
The problem was I feel, was that the style of the guide I wanted to make was more conservative than C-Quel’s style, I also wanted to make sure I wasn’t suggesting that only women in dresses have problems. So I set about modifying the SVG to produce some more professional, slightly more western eyes and clothes.
Your thoughts, dear reader?

looks great! Her feet are very inward-pointing, suggesting a very nervous person. It’s not embarrassing to ask questions, so she might relax (at least in her scientist role)!
they’re pretty cute and they do look more western. will you make the boy as well?
This style of artwork always puts me off in a creepy sexual way, but I do understand many others enjoy it. I would have never guessed it was a lab coat, how about jeans and and a t shirt? The feet and hands also appear to be deformed. Would an actual scientist walk around with a test tube and no goggles, nope. I should probably stay away from Comics.
Well, I think the hands were deformed because the artist wasn’t trying to be detailed, and may have even been going for more of a chibi[0] (or, perhaps, moé[1]) look. As for the coat, I think it resembles a lab coat well enough, but it kind of looks like it has a hood (which I would consider weird, but that’s just my opinion). I’m not too sure what about any of the three would induce “creepy sexual” feelings (except maybe for the first), they’re all fairly well covered, and don’t seem to be implying anything of that nature.
As for my personal opinion… I like the first one. I like the third one too. However, I don’t really think jeans and poofy shirts go too well together.
The different styles definitely portray way different personalities. The first one looks like a cute girl, maybe “ditsy”(never really liked that word). The second looks more normal, curious/thoughtful/awe-struck. The third looks smart, maybe interested, possibly intrigued. Anyway, they all look fine to me, but I prefer the first (for the clothes, if not the style) and third.

Why not introduce a male character in that section as well? Dress them both “smart”, and nobody can say a bad thing about it.
“I also wanted to make sure I wasn’t suggesting that only women in dresses have problems.”
are you serious? Who the hell would draw that conclusion??
“I would have never guessed it was a lab coat,”
How could you not? Do you normally or otherwise see people walk around with test tubes and wear 3/4th long coats that happen to be white and are used in science labs across the world?
-_-
They look very nice! but are they supposed to be the same individual in different roles? Or will they engage in some sort of dialog? In the latter case, I would suggest changing the hair color of one of them.
the last one is my favourite thought you *could* remove the hood from the lab coat
PowerPuff style?
They all look sad!
