"VT isn’t a normal state": I'd like to find a way to import some common sense to Maine Government.

Is there any backstory on who was behind the push? I'd like to meet them.

You should ask Andrew what he's heard about it since that's where he teaches.

I must say, as the product of the Vermont public school system (last two years in Burlington), even before computers were the norm, this makes me very proud.

It's awesome that they are doing this :)

Any idea how this review started? (or where the boards got the idea from)

Both IBM and Novell have a lot of FOSS solutions... including I think each a free office suite. So what's the problem there?

FYI: They are using Novell SLES and SLED. They were one of the topics at a recent Novell event I attended. They are a large user, VT government in general, of the Novell Groupwise product. They have been using it in their infrastructure and now they are looking to use it in their labs as well, which is great, because this puts OSS into the hands of the students, or as we say here in the USA, the future leaders of America :)
